You want it to be "durable and reliable"? Get a 1TB WD Black HDD, and put it into a USB3.0 enclosure that does UASP for Windows 10, and has a fan and/or aluminum chassis.

Edit: I was actually thinking of desktop-sized drives when I wrote the above, but I realize now that I forgot to add anything about that specifically.

What VL says. Don't trust external drives further then you can throw them. They're where the bottom-of-the-bin drives end up.

Either a WD or HGST drive, and a quality USB3 enclosure and you're good to go. If you want a bus powered drive, pay close attention to the drives startup current requirement. Ideally it shouldn't be more then 2.5W for compatibility with USB2. With USB3 you can go up to 4.5W.
 
If you're really worried about data loss you should be orienting your budget to factor in at least one backup solution. Buy the cheapest 2 as opposed to something better (more expensive).
