Cheap Laptop T-bao TBook R8 Won't Boot From USB

Hi

I got this cheap Chinese made laptop (T-bao TBook R8) as a gift. It has an Intel Atom x5-z8350 Quad core processor. The manufacturer has no support and the laptop is struggling to keep up with Windows 10, which it shipped with. I would like to be able to install Ubuntu or Kali on this but the BIOS does not give me an option to set the device to boot from USB. The only three boot options presented in the BIOS (American Megatrends 2.17.1249) are: "Windows Boot Manager", "Windows Recovery" and "UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell". None of which allows me to boot from the USB flash drive with the installer on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

some laptops require a key such as f12 to produce a non-standard boot menu. It is not in BIOS.

in my case, i changed the Pen Drive Format to Fat32 and using rufus you could configure que USB drive to UEFI & GPT

I got the same laptop. It starts nicely from my special usb stick for uefi gpt and legacy. Utilities are set in dutch language, but sometimes you can set them back to english. Did you find a solution already?

Dear friends, I hope Simeone can help me. I bought the T-bao R8 about 1 month ago and gave it to my son. As I tried to make a windows recovery, the computer doesn't boot. I try the F8 key during the boot but it doesn't responde. I tried also the Ctrl+Alt+Del to go to the BIOS setup, but it also doesn't enter.
If I switch on the machine it stays always giving the message Welcome, and after restarting, again and again...
I already tried to boot from a USB Pen with a recovery tool from Microsoft, but nothing!!
Is here Simeone who could help me?
Thanks a lot!!

Hello @rmv I had the same problem as you (didn't want to stay on windows 10 )

so I successfully install Windows 8.1 (with Rufus Utility) but the major problem you will encounter it's the drivers availability afterward !

I saved all the drivers installed on the preinstalled Windows 10 and try to install them on Windows 8.1 ! No way josé ! I have often the same message that their are not for that system (that we can Understand) So I look for exemple for the driver of the WiFi card Realtek RTL8723BS Wireless LAN 802.11n SDIO Network Adapter
and I didn't find anywhere a place where dowload that driver for Windows 8.1

And in the Device manager it's more than 20 item waiting for having a drivers...

As an alternative I pass to Linux Mint (I'm not a Linux user) I'm still struggle with few problems but better that than Windows 10.

Hi All,
I have the same problem. I just bought a T-bao 1 week ago. It was working fine until today. It is stuck at the windows welcome page. Touch pad is not working, mouse is not working. Restarting did not work. The laptop shows the wifi is connected. Help.
