What is the current thinking on using say 140mm to 120mm adapters or purpose designed shrouds/hoods to increase SAP (Static Air Pressure) and give a more strongly directional airflow over the MB?
I ask because both the cases I have (Fractal) for new builds have positions for a side mounted intake or exhaust fan (I know there is controversy around that matter too) which will sit, roughly, opposite the NVME drive location on the MB. I was wondering if a more directional flow of air from a shrouded/hooded fan might be beneficial.
Just by lucky coincidence I was watching an automotive repair TV programme today and the mechanic was advocating the use of a shrouded fan and manufactured one himself to improve, measurably, the radiator cooling.
So it is a 'legitimate' idea for improving a fan's effectiveness in a PC.
