How many ATers here use FTA satellite?

I've thought about it, just don't have a good place to put a dish and I recently put a new roof on and well I really don't want any more holes in it than I need.

Usually you dont mount on roof.

It doesn't have to be on the roof as long as you have line of sight to the satellite you're trying to receive from. If there are a lot of obstructions in the way (trees, buildings, etc.) then mounting higher such as on a roof might be necessary.

I meant not on shingles, you attach it to the wall.

That's what I was getting at with the "no good place to put a dish" statement. I could bury some coax and put it on my detached garage, but line of sight is kinda messed up on my main structure.

Thanks for the heads up. Are they HD channels or mostly SD?

At least quite a few HD, and even a few in UHD, including the NASA channel.

And there are apparently ways to unencrypt some of the channels. Dont know if its illegal or not, given its a publicly broadcasted signal, so its possible its completely legal to view them if you can unencrypt them. Otherwise it should be entirely legal to watch unencrypted channels.
