Is Thunderbird Getting Worse At Updating in a Timely Manner?

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this? Used to be sporadic, but now it seems more and more often, if I want to see an email I know is coming at a specific time, I won't see it until I shut down/restart Thunderbird. I am sure it would come eventually, but it seems less and less of a coincidence that this happens every time I stop and restart the program.

Backstory - I was trying out eM Client for a couple weeks, went back to Thunderbird, and the issue became must more noticeable (and this is my first day back on Thunderbird).

By the way, eM Client is a great email client, but the free version didn't fit my needs.

I'm on 52.3.0 and in account settings can switch to check for mail every minute and then slower from there. I just tested and that works.

Yeah, I have had cases where it shows something new came in, but,it isn't listed until I exit out and start it up again.

could be a profile issue? I'd try testing a new profile under a new computer user account and see if that makes any difference... mine is working fine and has been for a long time.

One of it's uses is on a Windows 10 90-day trial on a VM, and on this last download I did it manually - started a new account and set up my 3 mail accounts and let it manually download email from the server. Other times I use MozBackup. But in this particular case, I am experiencing the issue with a brand new profile and a fresh download of the latest Firefox (it was the from the Mozilla website). And I really don't think it's Charter because it downloads as soon as I close and re-open, on multiple occasions, and sometimes doesn't show moved emails (anywhere) until I close and re-open).

Should I file a bug report? Or does anyone know if a bug like this is already open?

I would report it. It's hard to tell if it has already been reported unless you're very familiar with their bug reporting forums/sites?

Just tested this with the latest beta version installed and running for about 30 minutes. Sent an email from another email account using another email application to both Charter email addresses. Confirmed receipt of the emails in Thunderbird within 1 minute of the send.So hopefully that means that the fix will be in a regular version soon. I saw in one of the conversations early '18, but I don't know if they were close enough to the finalized fix when that date was thrown out there, as I was just scanning the page.
