for those of you who care this is a bit of interesting news from Microsoft.

In what's seemingly an unprecedented event, Microsoft is withholding its regularly scheduled Patch Tuesday updates and patches for a month. On February 15, the day after Microsoft's regular Patch Tuesday was scheduled, officials said its previously slated February patches would not arrive until Tuesday, March 14.

Microsoft officials said very little yesterday about the reasons the company didn't deliver its Patch Tuesday patches on the second Tuesday of the month, as has been the case for the last several years.

In an update to yesterday's blog post announcing the delay, Microsoft officials also didn't shed any new light on the reasons for the delay.

My sources told me yesterday that Microsoft was having problems with its patch build system, and that those problems resulted in the company's failure to deliver its regular Patch Tuesday patches.

Not sure I buy that excuse that Mary Jo Foley said her sources told her.
Since, other patches are being sent just fine.

Really odd they don't do the critical patches, unless there are issues with those critical patches that were found at the last moment.
That wouldn't explain the long delay either though.

At least they're being communicative about the issue and have given a timeline for releasing the updates. I doubt they'd push the release by a month if there wasn't a real issue.

Yeah, was trying to sync my SCCM server at about ~2pm on Tuesday and nothing was coming through. Thought hmmmmm... quick google search revealed this.

Fine by me, get to skip the stupid patch process this month! We patch 1200 servers overnight over the course of a week each month, total PITA.

Of course Red Hat updates are fine... but we won't mention that to the security team.
