PC runs for a few mins, shuts down and releases odor

Specs: i5 6660k, gtx 950, corsair CX750M (power supply), and my cpu cooler is the corsair h80i

Ok so now when I turn my pc on (built it last january) it will work fine for like 5 minutes, then the fans will crank it up and become very loud, and burning odor will be released. Shortly after, the computer shuts down and tries to turn back on but fails. (I have to wait a bit). I did the sniff test and noticed that the power supply was very hot, and the smell seemed to be coming from the cpu cooler. My temps stay constant and are fine so the computer is not overheating. Is this a power supply problem, or worse? thanks

If I were to guess it would be your power supply. I've had that happen in the past with capacitors that were releasing gas. Do you have another power supply you could use to troubleshoot? Most likely you RMA the PSU. It's got a five year warranty.

I can't use another psu to troubleshoot. I do think it is the power supply though, I got the same response on anothee forum
