LMAO there is no way this new look is permanent .... RIGHT?

This is complete and utter trash. So much wasted space.
There has been too much wasted space even before this event. It's somewhat laughable the way it was, and still is - vast empty areas then you can't even read the forum topic because it cuts off most of the title text.

It's insane that we see the word "question", redundant text that is completely unnecessary, but then with that taking up column space, then only get about 14 characters (including spaces) of a topic title. Example... and this is how it was before the recent GUI change, and it makes no difference if the browser window is wider with more pixels available:

This appears to be a new version of Xenforo, which is NOT free. Everything from them has a cost attached.

Is this a commitment to keep the board running?

I hope they fix it so I can get rid of the useless right hand "trending threads" column.
If you have adblock plus or ublock origin browser add-ons, there is an element picker/blocker feature where you can "probably" just click that, select the right hand column section that you want gone (hover over it with the cursor), and make it disappear.

That doesn't necessarily mean that with it gone, the rest of the page flows onto the area where the thing you blocked was located, but this is more about elements that take up a column instead of an entire row. Hiding rows does usually cause the next row to move up where the blocked row was, as long as you select the entire row rather than a smaller subset element in that row.

You can. I tried it, but the rest doesn't reflow to take the space, so I removed the rule for now. If it doesn't get handled by the site, I may put some time into fixing it properly on my end.

Add this to AdBlock filter list - it gives you some space back.

Code:
socialtechwork.com##div[class="p-body-sidebarCol"]
socialtechwork.com##DIV[class="p-body-sidebar"]

(it gets rid of the trending column too which I don't like either)

Worked to get rid of the "Trending" column...thanks.
Didn't do anything to regain any space though.

I think this should remove the push notification box at the bottom of the screen. If anyone has a better version please share.

Code:
socialtechwork.com##.js-enablePushContainer.notice--enablePush.notice--primary.js-notice.notice > .notice-content

Edit: I tried purbeast0's rules and I believe I'm seeing the same results as Boomer. I have at least a couple of inches space on both sides of screen. My Firefox window isn't maximized because I keep my password manager on the right.

I'm using firefox in Windows 11 so maybe that is the difference. My 3 entries are all under "! Mar 3, 2026 https://socialtechwork.com".

Code:
! Mar 3, 2026 https://socialtechwork.com
socialtechwork.com##.js-enablePushContainer.notice--enablePush.notice--primary.js-notice.notice > .notice-content
socialtechwork.com##div[class="p-body-sidebarCol"]
socialtechwork.com##DIV[class="p-body-sidebar"]

Adding @purbeast0 's code to Ublock Origin gets me all the space back on the right. However, I am also running the browser at 150% zoom magnification, so that is what probably makes the difference.

As you increase the browser zoom magnification, it uses up the empty space on the right side.

Zoom is something I didn't consider. I'm at 133% zoom.

Scroll it up to 150 and you'll see what I mean. 160 seems to be the highest that makes a difference in reclaiming the space (at least, on my old monitor anyway).

I don't ever get the push notifications as I think I turned them off in the settings.

It's been a week. I decided to switch my avatar to one that fits the circular view. Any updates?

The annoying banner is still at the top. I think the forum looks pretty good. Remove the sidebars maybe, but that's already fixed for me. Mark it 'won't fix', remove the banner, and get on with life.

Well, from my own experience tweaking Firefox 148 (and I'm not done yet!), there can be a significant variance in brightness and colors seen, depending on your (windows?) OS theme color, whether FF is set to use it, automatic or dark theme in FF, FF profile userChrome.css (or was it userContent.css?) code added, then I have Dark Reader browser extension configured in a certain way, then also picked Anandtech forum dark mode a long time ago... so potentially many combinations of settings.

I'm seeing this right now, didn't get rid of the right column...
