They had me memorize mine up to 12x12. Go big or go home.

I think I learned in 2nd grade and it was purely by rote. We all had to write out the complete tables 1x1 up to 12x12 every single day in class. It was an incredibly inefficient use of class time and I'm sure there would have been easier ways, but it did work. We all learned them flawlessly,
