What will you do with money left over from upgrading to RYZEN?

The only people saving money on a Ryzen system is the person who was planning on buying an 8-10 core Intel system, which is very few and far between. These prices will allow people, who would have bought 4c/8t Intel systems, to by 8c/16t systems instead.

This.

This didn't save me money. It just encouraged me to actually spend it. Instead of not doing anything to my server, I'll probably upgrade it.

Well after reading reviews I've decided to build a full water-cooled loop with my leftover budget, gonna be fun! 🙂

Instead of buying a Ferrari 458 I'm instead buying a Nissan GTR and the SAVINGS, HOLY FCK guys I'm rich! WOW thanks NISSAN made me so much $$$$

Edit: the comparison to $1000 price CPU is ludicrous; check Steam Survey and see what % users decide to buy at the peak of the price/performance curve. My gaming friends are summed up by Gen2-Gen4 i5's and run at 1080P. Just keepin it real.

The number of people in this thread considering a 6900K = 0

You are not saving much money with a 1700X vs a 6800K or a 1700 vs a 7700K.. The Asus Crosshair VI costs more than it's Z270 counter part...so in the end you end up spending the same.

I've been needing more cores for a while now. But, not at Intel prices. I get to finally retire my 6 core Xeon. The $600 or so being saved over an Intel 8 core will go into a 2nd GTX 1080.

Good deal. Of course these Ryzen chips do offer some value...I was just having some fun with how over blown some were making the savings out to be. Why do you need two 1080s? Cuda acceleration?

I suppose I don't actually *need* 2 1080's. The savings might be better spent on my wife for instance. But at least it is an option over throwing a big bucket of money at Intel.

You going for a 1700 + OC?

Yes sir, 1700 looks saaa-weet. I'm also seriously looking at a the B350 over the X370 for the not insignificant savings there too. I bit less fluff & I won't miss all the extra LEDs. Crossfire is still possible on the B350 albeit with reduced lanes (which have minimal impact really between x8 & x16), but it's the VRMs that will be the deciding factor and how they affect the OC ability. Waiting on some reviews to see before I commit to a B350 motherboard.

I'll spend the money needed like in this case for an adequate new loop. I do have a penchant for sweetspot priced gear though and an aversion to overpaying for marketing brand or disproportionately priced stuff for epeen. Getting a full water-cooled system for the price of a CPU, and then some, appeals to me.

I should have my R7 1800X by Saturday and my Asus C6H mobo next Tuesday. I'll post here how it OCs along with pics of my custom loop and benchmarks. Probably next Wednesday.

Hope you win the OC lottery 🙂

Even with Intel's incoming response on comparable parts, what will you do with the money you save when upgrading to Ryzen?

Better components? Leave it in the bank? Buy a mocka latte?

Drugs and hoes brother, drugs and hoes.

True.

But for the first time in over a decade, it's possible to justify buying an AMD CPU. I'll have my old beige tower, a glow-in-the-dark Athlon sticker from TigerDirect, and be 22 again.

If Asrock would license the "Abit" name long enough to product an X370 motherboard and call it a "BH6", we'd see some real fireworks.

Good deal man. I feel you.
