I know I am in for at least 1 new chip, X570 board; RAM is a big unknown right now, I like having 32GB for current builds.

Storage will be very interesting, if we are getting new NVME products to go with Zen2 / X570.

I'm on the fence between a high-bin 8c chip or whatever happens to be the halo chip at launch. I don't really "need" more than 8 cores (yet), and it would be nice to have only one chiplet so that I can avoid potential chiplet/chiplet latency problems that you might see on a 12c or 16c part. That being said, having 16c on AM4 would still be a hell of a lot of fun.

Either way, I've got 16GB of DDR4-4400 and a 1TB 970 EVO waiting for the new machine. It'll be interesting to see if the new PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe drives produce many gains in real-world benchmarks (read: not just moving huge files from one location to another).

To be fair, we have a mobo sub-forum.

I'm only going to post the CPU's for ALL the 3000 series here, even the APU's, as this is the CPU forum.

Build threads for past releases ultimately come down to what CPU people get and the performance with the components they choose, so others know what works and what doesn't.
 
Imma go for the R9 3900X this time, lol.

Also interested in an under-volted 3600X for NAS / media center duties.
 
I'm happy with my 1800X, so I will not upgrade at home, but at the office we are moving to Linux and that those 12c do look great.

I hope somebody releases a non-gaming X570 with 10gb Lan.
 
Going back and forth between 3600x/3700x/3800x now. The only demanding thing I use my computer for is gaming (Total War, Fallout 4, Xcom, etc). So I'm leaning toward the 6 cores, but I also know I'll be keeping it for years. Hell, I'm still on the 2500k I picked up in Fall 2011. It'lll be matched with a 2080.
 
I was really hoping for a 12/24 core Ryzen for around $350-$400 which is a little bit of a disappointment however the 65 watt 3700x is a little bit of a surprise
Realistically 8/16 should be more than adequate and I’m liking the idea of less noise, less heat and if I choose to repurpose it as a game server in the future that level of power use is very tolerable.
 
I'm waiting for official reviews (and then for any early-adopter bugs to be worked out), but the 3700X or 3800X look the most interesting to me. While it appears there's not much difference between the two, I'm going to guess it's going to play out like what the 2700 was compared to the 2700X as far a boost states.

That said, I like the Asrock Taichi boards, but the X570 version looks horrible to me. The design looks like "Gigabyte's overkill RGB" boards the last few generations, and that solid, flat metal sheet that covers most of the board can't be that great for cooling the M.2 drives under it.

I have a M.2 heatink on my 970 EVO Plus because they run HOT, HOT, HOT, but I'm not sure a heatsink would work on the new Taichi board because of the metal covering:

Honestly I think that board looks terrible. It looks like a prop from the original Star Trek. Would look much better with everything black except keep the silver on the pci slots.

Yes, the built in one. I was only saying if you go for a X470 Taichi, you would need that heatsink.

I agree. I was shocked when I saw it's design.

The X470 Taichi was one of the best looking boards ever (IMO), and then Asrock decided to chase the RGB dragon. 😱
Hopefully they release another toned-down mid-range board, or I guess I will have to jump ship to Asus or MSI.

The main reason I never upgraded to a 2700X build was because of AMD motherboards only having one full speed M.2 slot, and I need two.

And I haven't bought a MSI motherboard in 20 years, but at least its design isn't too over-the-top.
 
What I don't like about that MSI, no heatpipe between the VRM coolers like the Taichi. And I don't see the second m.2 slot.

Edit: maybe at the bottom ?

Yeah, there's one under the heatsinks and one at the bottom.

I think I will likely also buy a Noctua NH-C14S to keep that whole socket area cooled. But there's time for a lot more boards to be announced before I have to decide for sure.

Its not AM4 compatable, per newegg. (the cooler)
 
Anyone worried that there are not going to be "budget" X570 boards?

I guess $200 ish?

I already have an X399 Taichi.

If they are as much as a TR board, I may pass on Zen2 until TR3 is out.
