Sooo... Musk now allows Starlink to be used by Russians, imported from Dubai. When USA sanctions this? Nice move!

Community notes don't work, or Cucker Tarlson is protected by some unknown benefactor, owner of the site....

Time for the government to tap SpaceX on the shoulder and make them turn off terminals that belong to the Russians.

Running afoul of sanctions when you have huge government contracts and are looking for more is a bit of a problem.

Weren't you guys complaining that SpaceX geo-fenced off the occupied territories of Ukraine for Starlink service? Now you are complaining that they haven't geo-fenced them off?

It should not be too complicated to determine which terminals are in use by the Russians or even simply ask the Ukrainians.

SpaceX should not be supplying telecommunications services to the Russian military.

Why would it not be complicated to determine which terminals are in use by Russia? Considering they would be purchased through multiple non Russian intermediaries. Best Buy could have sold a pallet of terminals to some fake front company and then those terminals are sent to Dubai and then find their way into Russia. SpaceX would have no idea that those terminals are in the hands of the Russians. The easiest thing to do in my opinion would for Ukraine to supply a list of all serials/mac's of Starlink terminals they want to work in the occupied territories. SpaceX then whitelists those terminals and blocks every other terminal from working in the occupied territories of Ukraine. However we are assuming that Ukraine is able to supply such a list to SpaceX. Maybe SpaceX has already had this discussion with Ukraine and Ukraine hasn't supplied a list to them. Maybe SpaceX is looking at a way to selectively geo-fence terminals, it might be all or nothing with the current software. Maybe the geo-fencing isn't precise and the Russian terminals only work when they are near the front lines with Ukraine. We really are missing a lot of details before we start jumping to conclusions that SpaceX is supplying telecommunications service to the Orcs.

Virtually any terminals online in the occupied territories are either going to belong to the Russians or the Ukrainian military. The AFU will largely know what terminals are in use for their purposes. Simply lock those MACs out of the network that don't belong.

You assume that Ukraine has a list of those terminals or has been willing to share that list with SpaceX. I wouldn't automatically assume this. Maybe Ukraine is in the process of getting this list to SpaceX? Maybe the geo-fencing isn't precise and the Russian terminals only work when they are near the front lines with Ukraine. There should be pretty extensive records of exactly which terminals SpaceX sold to the US Government who then sent them to Ukraine specifically for military use. Seems like a good place to start. Scrubbing the remaining units that are on shouldn't be super difficult.

I am not implying that SpaceX is knowingly selling services to the Russian army but that it looks like its happening and steps should be taken to prevent their use of the system. I doubt their lawyers would counsel management to bust US sanctions that could expose them to criminal charges.

That’s what WINNING looks like in Ukraine, firing their top general.

😁

In other news:

KRAMATORSK, Ukraine — The Ukrainian military is facing a critical shortage of infantry, leading to exhaustion and diminished morale on the front line, military personnel in the field said this week — a perilous new dynamic for Kyiv nearly two years into the grinding, bloody war with Russia.
In interviews across the front line in recent days, nearly a dozen soldiers and commanders told The Washington Post that personnel deficits were their most critical problem now, as Russia has regained the offensive initiative on the battlefield and is stepping up its attacks.

Tucker's interview of Putin goes live this evening sometime. Which time zone, unsure.
All the propaganda they will shovel, will be the same anti-Western bullshit they spewed here for two years.
Russia will be the victim, of course. They have no choice but to kill everyone they meet. Evil Americans made them do it!

If the liberal leaning stations broadcast this they'll have the lowest ratings of the year right about then and that Russian satellite station FOX should have all of their millions of *ahem* "conservative sympathizers raising the roofs of their......caves.

So Russian is using a US based company for communications? Even if the actual info is encrypted, the locations will be available to US intelligence.
