Do I understand the timeline correctly that he shot down a $25k Tesla and then they still voted to give him $50 billion?
The sad part is that it was a bunch of institutional investors that helped ratify the obscene comp package. They made a calculation that TSLA was worth more with the Elon RDF than without, even though there was already plenty of evidence a year ago that he was MIA as CEO of Tesla. Granted they couldn't necessarily have foreseen he'd go full Nazi, but he was already asleep at the wheel.

To some degree, the calculus is true. TSLA is a hype stock, and Musk has convinced people that its value is as an AI/robotics play. IF he's no longer the head of the snake, Tesla is merely a BEV manufacturer with unimpressive margins and shaky outlook in a highly competitive global competition. And just because you replace him as CEO doesn't mean all the brand destruction he's wreaked will be undone.

Musk and his lawyerly crew threatened a safety team with deportation when the team brought up a potential safety issue in 2014. Color me shocked that they have always been this evil.
We need to keep bringing this up to anyone who will listen.
Podcasts, MSM, blusky, etc. Hell even on Twitter but that will probably get the poster banned.
Anything that ruffles elmo's panties is a good thing.

I guess this is why the stock is pumping after hours?

This seems like the most bearish news possible for the stock though…

Guidance and what is Musk doing and when on DOGE. Earnings call will be major. Also a lot of this is already baked in to the price.
Previously they forecast sales growth in 2025, which they just revoked.
The P/E ratio is still north of 100, how is any of this already baked into the cake? The ratio is actually going to increase once this disastrous quarter gets into the P/E calculation (quarterly net profit dropped 70% YoY).

I have no idea* where TSLA trades at in a year, but many people in this thread firmly believe it's still wildly overpriced. But sure, let's hear what Elon has to say on the CON call. 😉

* I think JPMorgan Chase's forecast is a lot better than the Street consensus (still over $300).

Grade A horse shit from Musk on that call lol. Millions of robots and Robotaxi's eh? Talking shit about Waymo who has a functional product?

Sure. FSD right around the corner. Just like he's been saying for years.

During the earnings call, Musk laid out that his time at DOGE will be greatly reduced. That is what the market wants to hear and the stock started to jump after market as a result.

Everything else, true. But why the stock wasn’t dropping with just the earnings miss was what it was.

The reality is that Tesla earned more profit from selling emissions credits to other automakers than from selling cars last quarter. Quarterly revenues down $1 billion year over year.

Oh and those emissions credits? That program is being canceled by Trump (no need for automakers to buy credits if Trump eliminates the Biden fuel efficiency standards.)

Actually about a $2B YoY quarterly revenue drop, well below WS expectations. I alluded to it earlier, but it's weird there wasn't more margin erosion and they still squeezed out a net profit. IMHO that doesn't add up, and it feels more like financial engineering.

The emissions credits exceeded the net profit; without the credits, they lost money.

The funny thing about the stock rallying after hours is the notion that Elon leaving DOGE is good for Tesla. Are people expecting 2015 Elon to return? He's been a part-time CEO for several years already. If the corrupt board never fires his ass, it's far from certain a motivated Musk is even good for Tesla.

Exactly, his brand has forever gone to the shittier. And no one is suddenly going to rally around the brand, because he is back.

You mean the real estate fraudster in chief has another fraudster in his employ? Say it isn't so.

His mere presence is alienating to their core market so that seems like a pretty big problem. If anything I think his return to a bigger role at Tesla would make things even worse.

I don't know if they're playing with the books but I also suspect the decline in Q2 will be worse as the shit that made him really unpopular didn't get going until about a third of the way into the quarter.

As if Tesla/CyberTruck needed any more bad press:

Too early to know what happened, but we live in a litigious society. This is a top recruit, scion of big name NBA talent who was getting ready to play with LeBron’s other son at USC, and who just dropped 63 points in a recent game and took his prep school team to back-to-back Finals.
