Although you can use symbols to create French letters in your documents, recent versions of Microsoft Word include shortcut keys that allow you to add French accent marks from a standard U.S. keyboard. Does anyone have the link to the correct list of shortcut keys?

Those accents are called diacriticals.

I always just use the Windows Character Map. It has accented letters in French and other languages in most common fonts. There you can select and copy any character and then paste it into your document. If you use them often enough you get to remember the ASCII codes. Character Map shows you the code at its lower right when you click on a letter. Those are the ones you type by holding down the "Alt" key while you type a 4-digit code. For example, Alt 0233 get you é, the e-acute, Alt 0241 gets you ñ, Alt 0225 gets you á.

So it's handy, I keep the icon for Character Map on my Taskbar at lower left.

OP acknowledges charmap, but asked for an alternative. BTW, in order to use charmap codes, NUM LOCK must be ON.
