After market radio stopped working properly.

Hi, I have a jvc 7 inch head unit with aftermarket speakers, no subs or amps. I installed it and it worked fine. Then it began sounding distorted and the steering wheel controls would stop working. At first it would be temporary. I'd turn car off then when I'd turn back on it'd be fine. Then it just never went back to fine. I thought it might be a wiring issue, so i took out and completely rewired and same thing. Any insights into this? It's a 2015 Altima
 
IMHO the best thing to do is bench test it. That way you can isolate whether the HU is bad or if its some issue related to the car.
