Question FCC foreign-manufactured router ban is moving forward

Well, the FCC is apparently going forward with banning all foreign manufactured routers in the US. Under the proposal, you can keep using existing routers and can still buy models previously approved by the FCC, but from what I understand new firmware updates for those existing units will be banned effective 03/01/2027.

Curiously, this only affects consumer routers --- business routers are totally exempt. Thus, the rich business techbros thus can apparently continue to purchase whatever they want going forward.

As if everything else going wrong with the computer industry wasn't enough.....

Hopefully, some solution will come up. Otherwise, I suspect that pricing on routers in the US is going to go in the direction of DDR5 and SSDs.

The hackers and malware writers will have a ball, though, due to the lack of firmware updates to close security holes after 03/01/2027.
