How can I upgrade my computer to maximize gaming performance?

Currently using a GTX 1080TI, but want to make sure the rest of my computer is up to date!
Processor is a Intel core I7 4790k and my motherboard is MSI Z97 GAMING 5. About to get myself a HTC Vive so want to make sure nothing will be bottle necked. Any suggestions?

I'm considering it, but someone told me that the 4790k is the most my motherboard would handle! Any ideas? Thank you again!
 
I assume that shorty was talking about an entire platform update (new CPU / mobo / RAM), because you do indeed have the highest SKU for that socket.
 
Depends on how patient you are and if you want to overclock.

If you are patient, wait for Coffee Lake chips to come back in stock and buy an 8700K.

If you are not patient, buy a Ryzen 1600X if you do not plan to overclock or a Ryzen 1600 if you plan to overclock.
