Does not help when your monitoring software relies on what you're monitoring. 😛

Though I'm kind of in the same boat with my infrastructure, if my internet goes down and I'm not home I lose all monitoring of everything including my online servers. Or if my email server goes down it won't be able to send the alert out. I need to fix that some day.

Though I noticed with my new phone I only get the alerts when I switch from wifi to data or vise versa, wtf! I left home to go to the grocery store a while ago and got a power failure alert. Gee thanks, that was me playing in the electrical panel like 3 freaking hours ago, and I only got the alert now.

Typo caused Amazon's big cloud-computing outage

NEW YORK - Amazon says an incorrectly typed command during a routine debugging of its billing system caused the five-hour outage of some Amazon Web Services servers on Tuesday.

In a summary posted online, the Seattle company says a command meant to remove a small number of servers for one of its S3 subsystems was entered incorrectly and a larger set of servers was removed. A full restart was required, which took longer than expected due to how fast Amazon Web Services has grown over the past few years.

Amazon says it is making changes to its system to make sure incorrect commands won't trigger an outage of its web services in the future.

Amazon is the world's largest provider of cloud services, which entails hosting companies' computing functions on remote servers.

You don't eat gummy bear with a fork? How uncivilized. Oh wait you live on a boat, I understand.

:awe:

No, I don't think you do!
I don't eat them. They are rather disgusting. Ditto for hot pockets! 😛
And secondly, I don't live on a boat. I've been on numerous yachts even some that could be classified as ships. (~10,000GT)
