Nikon: Upgrade from D7100

I bought my D7100 back in 2014 and it's been great, but I've been thinking about upgrading. I know I'll need new glass and/or an adapter to go to the Z6 III or Z8. Are any of you using either? I think the Z6 III will meet most of my needs, but the Z8's better resolution is tempting. Has anyone moved from F-mount to Z-mount using the adapter? Is it worth trying to keep all my glass and use it, or should I be looking at starting over fresh, maybe even with a different brand?

I do a bit of everything with the camera, hiking photos, around the house, up close video.... I need a good all-around platform.

I'd start with the FTZ adapter only because F-mount glass is still fantastic, and completely replacing what you have now is probably costly. But if you do want to offload some stuff, i may be interested since I have a D850 lol. I'm sure there are some advantages to Z-mount lenses over F-mounts in like-for-like setups. Admittedly, there are completely new lens designs for mirrorless mounts only - like Tamron's 35-150 f2-2.8, Sigma's 16mm f1.4, etc.

Can't comment on one body over the other, beyond I don't think you can go wrong.

The old lenses actually work better with the adapter on the new Z bodies (faster AF). The only downside to the adapter is the space and the weight, which aren't much. The build quality of the Z series bodies is far better than that of the old F-mount bodies. Z lenses are superior to previous F-Mount versions. Nikon has the shortest flange distance, so they can develop great lenses easily, and all of the competitor lenses can be adapted.

I have owned/used all three generations of Z6. I think it's the best all-around camera. It does everything well, and it's lightweight.
