I wonder if xenforo is doing something fundamentally wrong. I used to be on another xenforo forum that would go tits up every so often, and require manual intervention. I wasn't an admin, so I have no idea what was done, but I did once co admin a Vbulletin forum, and didn't have these issues.

My hunch is that using Fong's ISP and muffler repair is part of the problem.

Site is barely still on life support.

Just got the following:

Oops! We ran into some problems. Please try again later. More error details may be in the browser console.

502 Gateway Error

FYI All

That's where a number of ATF folks seem to have landed. It's independently run (I think as a retirement project for the forum overlord) and the vibe isn't dissimilar from this place.

Not a bad place to set-up an account in the event ATF goes down for good.

This page barely loads, most of the page elements are busted. But yeah I got forums.thefpsreview.com in my sig along with anyf.ca which are both suitable landing zones, I would actually recommend them both (and I think @Red Squirrel got registrations working on his forum so yay).

I like the look of Squirrel's forum. Has "general" boards. I don't care a lot about tech anymore. I just use it; like a hammer. It isn't that fun to me. Just a tool to get stuff done.

Yeah registrations are turned on now. I still need to tweak some stuff to slow down bots but it seems what I did is working for now. The bots were mass signing up for accounts and the large number of confirmation emails was basically getting my server flagged as sending spam.

Also an idea for AT, check if there is an unusual amount of traffic from this IP range and block it: 43.173.0.0/16

My forum was kind of slow until I noticed tons of traffic from that range so just blocked the whole thing. Ever since I blocked that IP range the forum is ridiculously fast. At one point it was hammering me so hard it was basically a DDoS attack as Apache had stopped responding to normal requests one night.

This brings up a relevant topic. It'd be nice if (many if not most) refugees of this forum, all ended up at the same new home, but right now we have at least a 3 way split between RS's forum and the two proposed by DrMrLordX.

Can they all handle the traffic or will we be back to where this forum is now? It seems like a poll wouldn't be a bad idea, listing the most popular alternate forums, to at least let people know which forum the majority prefers and are most likely to move to in the event that AT forums shuts down some day.

As far as slow AT forum response, same here, sluggish the last few days and timed out today, though with a different sort of message which wasn't the normal 504 but instead some cloud host generated message page loaded instead. Edit: Now I'm getting the 504 error too.

I noticed a lot of sites have been slow lately, Facebook, Reddit, X and this one, as far as the main ones I frequent. I know Cloudflare had some issues a while back, wonder if it's actually some 3rd party issue of that nature causing this or if it's just a coincidence.

Yea, some other sites are a little laggy. Not nearly what it is here though, and it could also be my internet.

The funny thing is it has been going on for much longer than just that period. Do not really care though.

The board there seems pretty decent. The only thing I don't really like is the 5 minute edit limit on posts.
