Trim nails

I'm going to install baseboard trim that is 1/2 inch thick MDF. Going into 5/8 drywall. I have an 18 gauge brad nailer that will do 2 inch nails. Can I get away using an 18 gauge nailer or do I have to borrow a 16 gauge to get this done?

2" brad means 7/8" of it will be in the stud (sole plate) behind the drywall. Plenty! IF your baseboard were a REALY hard wood, MAYBE the nailer you have might not drive hard enough. But for MDF baseboard I expect no issue.

First time doing trim. I bought a coping saw and watched a few YouTube videos on doing corners. I'm doing baseboard only to start. Any additional advice?

Titebond has always worked well for me. If you're in a hurry supper glue and accelerant work well on MDF. You just have to get it right when you push the two parts together, there is no adjustment.
