Trump orders media blackout at EPA

That still doesn't excuse gag orders and grant freezes preventing the EPA from speaking out or effecting change for any reason.

That's what I was getting at earlier. In repressive countries there are means to frustrate, at least to some degree, government censorship. I don't know how well those methods would work in the US considering the last two Presidents were all up our butts with domestic surveillance, but there should be some ways that are safer than others.

I'm curious as to how long Trumpers will keep defending this asshole before it finally dawns on them he's just as horrible as everyone has been saying.

Will those same 62 million fools march on Washington to support the guy when he gets impeached?

Are you kidding? Who in the GOP is going to stand up for the EPA at this point? They've spent the last 30 year vilifying it, totally poisoning the well. Same with the USDA, they've been howling about regulation so long that it's now impossible for them to stand up for it without looking ridiculous. I can't even imagine how disastrous this is. This fucking guy is a toddler running around in a china shop breaking shit because he can.

So Trump is basically shutting down the EPA? And he's putting republicans in a position to eat crow in order to stick up for it.

He is trying to give big business carte blanche with no regard for anything that has come before. I'm sure the white house will have a shit storm of misinformation to combat our impending environmental disasters.

Hiring freeze on the government, gag orders, stop work on all new products.

If you work for the federal government, the message is clear, go find private employment. And lol if you don't think the government has good workers. There are tons of really talented, hard working people working for the federal government that make less than they could in the private sector because they like the stability or they believe in their mission. The best ones will leave because they can find other jobs, and what's left over will be the people that couldn't get other jobs.

As bad as I feared this administration could be, it has been worse. I have a feeling it's going to get a whole lot worse too.

Part of Trump's big jobs plan is to generate some 500k+ unemployed former government workers within the first month. This will of course sound great to his ever-dwindling supporters, but that is because they are very, very stupid people.

MAGA!

Now we know why WikiLeaks was so keen on getting Trump elected, they are gonna make a killing with all the pageviews once all Federal employees start leaking anything and everything...

So they are putting a hold on all those activities not part of the core mission of the agencies. I'm assuming they want to review how the agencies will work going forward and what changes they want to make. They haven't killed off any ongoing contract activities, they are just putting a moratorium on new ones. Seems pretty reasonable, I don't see any immediate reason for alarm.

Happened at the USDA as well, specifically the Agricultural Research Service, the scientific arm of the USDA:

USDA science researchers ordered to stop publishing news releases; other documents
Supposedly, the order does not cover publications for peer-reviewed journals. However, news releases and social media is an important avenue to disseminate scientific findings to the general public, as well as other things related to the mission of the agency.

Hmm. I wonder if the usual suspects in the established GOP: the Turtle, the Squat boy, etc--are understanding that this Toad is essentially acting out in exactly the way they have been promising to act out for years. I wonder if this finally makes them uncomfortable, seeing the actual results of this kind of nonsense.

It's like the difference between making an idle threat to cut open a guy's belly and strangle himself with his own intestines, and then seeing a guy actually do it and go "Man, that's fscked up. This guy is literally insane."

Prohibiting new task orders and work assignments from being issued to contractors may impact ongoing cleanups and monitoring at superfund sites. I say "may" instead of "will" because I not in that field anymore. Back when I was, EPA would sign a contract for a complete cleanup but dole out the money under the contract through a series of task orders. It provided flexibility to adjust work to what was found during site cleanups. Shutting down the issuing of task orders can effectively shut down a project. Contractors will then be able to file claims for demob/remob costs. This is not a freebie for the government.

Wait till he starts in on the Department of Energy, then you're really going to hear the lefties howl.
