It has been a issue for years that Starlink terminals near the front line in Ukraine will work for either Ukraine or Russia because the geo-fencing isn't precise. The solution was for Ukraine to create a whitelist of terminals they approve and have SpaceX block all others near the front line. Russia would get terminals from 3rd parties in countries approved for Starlink sales and then the terminals would be shipped/smuggled into Russia. The terminals wouldn't work in Russia proper but would start working as they got near the front lines in the occupied territories. Ukraine was reluctant to create a whitelist because they knew unauthorized terminals where in operation on their side also by Ukrainian soldiers. It finally become enough of a issue that Ukraine decided to go the whitelist route. Looks like it has been very effective. I mentioned this solution 2-years ago, surprised it took 2-years to Ukraine to make the decision to supply SpaceX with the terminals to whitelist.

I guess credit where credit is due ... Musk actually turned them off. Pissing off Putin is not risk free, he could start knocking SL out of the sky for one.

Good luck with that, there is 9,000+ starlink satellites.

Also with those Starlink Satellites that are Star shield (DOD) and NRO proliferated architecture sats. They use the same satellite bus as normal commercial Starlink satellites.

Attacking US satellites would be a extreme escalation by Putin that would put Trump in a very difficult position to do something. Especially if he started knocking down US DOD and NRO Sats.

It may have been partialy on purpose. Seeing a lot of reports that Ukraine has taken advantage of the comms blackout this has caused to counter attack, with some success apparently. Russian forces became reliant on it and now the rug has been pulled. They will eventually adapt but all Russian military sources say things are indeed pretty fucked up at the moment.

Yeah, fuck those people. The principle of "for those that have received many bounties, much must be shared in return" should apply. We're such a wealthy country, that we can afford to spend a fraction of a percent of the budget on foreign aid to relieve suffering, hunger, and disease around the world. It's the right thing to do, and it has the benefit of also being good for the US.

failing twiXter acquisition by spaceX means etf and other market funds will be forced to buy into moneypit of grok ai, benefitting elon cronies and backers who will cash out on the overvaluation based on no audit due to acquisition being between 2 private owned entity.
