His character in the book is like he is in the film. And while he is a brilliant scientist, as they state he had a big falling out with the scientific community when he went for a crazy theory on the ability of life to exist, and just went to teach kids - and he was just a goofy and funny school science teacher after that. His persona in the movie is correct, and one of the more endearing parts of the book is the humor.

I do wish the movie was like fifteen minutes longer to have incorporated some more of the science than it did, and also a couple parts should have been longer.
look i'm not gonna get into an argument about what is currently one of the best reviewed films out, but you got a goofy scientist and a goofy animal-like rock-monster pet alien, it's not exactly hard scifi.

The Complete (not actually complete) Fu Manchu Collection,

including The Mask / The Face / The Brides / The Vengeance / The Blood / The Castle .. Of Fu Manchu.

Bunch of shit shovelware with a B&W film in 1932 starring Boris Karloff as a horrendously grimacing Fu Manchu and 5 films between 1962 and 1969 starring instead Christopher Lee.

None are worth watching, not even for historical reasons. There's a reason why these were classed as "pulp fiction" and no, they are not the good, Quentin Tarantino kind.

Over Your Dead Body - 8.5/10

So fucking great, it's hilarious and violent, it's graphic and pretty unsettling. But since it's a comedy at heart you will laugh at seeing someone's head get blown off with a shotgun. Well, unless you don't like dark comedies, then this isn't the movie for you at all. The plot's a married couple who decide to take a weekend trip to a remote cabin. And both have been planning to kill the other during the getaway. But unexpected shit happens and the whole weekend goes haywire.

I don't laugh laugh at movies, I probably laughed out loud at 10 scenes, while I found it hilarious, it's extremely dark humor. This movie isn't for the faint of heart. There was 1 scene in particular that was disturbing, and borderline took it too far. I laughed out loud, but after I felt like maybe I shouldn't have found it funny lol. The way the story's told, they interweave flashbacks to show how shit got to the moment it was currently at. There are some awesome twists and the chaos is pretty much non stop once it starts. The violence is some of the most graphic I've seen in a long time.

Jason Segel & Samara Weaving are the stars and they really had me believing they hated and wanted to kill each other. For anyone who watches UFC, ex fighter Keith Jardine's in it, and he's so fucking good. Juilette Lewis plays her usual unhinged chick character.

Even the ending was pretty great.

Not a movie, but i have not watched any anime for years, and the kid got me to watch this "Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song"

Found it was really well made. Good story and pace. Not overly long with just 13 episodes and each one was really good.

10/10.

Was wondering what's Fluorite Eye's Song means and the kid happily pointed a post to me:

AI or humanoid robots in that era/universe of the show could capture and preserve images through their lens (referring to the 'fluorite eyes') as memories. So it's not necessarily the song is about her eyes, but just as you might have seen in the intro OP (opening theme song), it is all that she has seen in her lifetime. It is essentially her story, her life, all of her experiences that allowed her to be "Vivy" (or her true self) in those final moments of the final episode. The 'song' part of "Fluorite Eye's Song" is the song sung by Vivy in the final episode, where she sings her 'story' - you could say that it was intended to show how Vivy is more than just an AI, but more closer to a human - an AI who sings her life story, with each memory, each emotion entangled into a single song.

I'm just telling you how the book is, it's not hollywood screwing up the adaptation. Also, why can't goofy scientists exist? That's not hard reality.

The alien was not hard science obviously, and neither the astrophage, but other than that, the book was loaded with real science. The movie did cut out a lot of the explanations of things happening though, which I mentioned before, which is why I think they needed another 10-15 min of runtime to have included more science stuff, plus a couple other small plot movements. But the book was not just about hard science, it was also a buddy book. The humor of Grace is an integral part of the book - you can see the school teacher in him throughout. I mean look at the ending.

That buddy and humor relationship is a huge part of the book and why it was so popular. I literally laughed out loud many times reading the book.

Also watched Super Mario Galaxy...

I liked it a lot. It wasn't quite as good as the first one, but that isn't really a knock. They weren't going to make one better than the first iteration of bringing Mario to the big screen.

The movie is just filled with easter eggs and things that will make Mario fans happy. I loved all of the inclusion of the Super Mario 2 stuff and the nods to Super Mario World. The 2D side scrolling scenes and how they showed them in 3D and 2D were really neat. Yoshi was great as expected. Bowser Jr. was great and it felt like I was playing the Bowser Fury game while watching him lol.

If you liked the first one, you will probably like this one.

SMB 2 is one of my favorite games of my childhood, the nostalgia factor really resonates with me. Thanks you just convinced me to seek this movie out.

I won't spoil any of it but I was kinda like "NO WAY!!" when I saw who was in it.

And I bet a LOT of people had no clue who the characters were too. Nobody under like 30 at least lol.
