Our second house has a smallish yard, ~1/2 ac. I'm getting tired of trailering the X300 back and forth an hour each way to maintain the lawn/yard.

So, began looking around for something inexpensive but decent. Stumbled into the Simplicity dealer in Abbeville yesterday on a lark, given Simplicity mowers are not cheap to buy.

He's got a leftover 2011 Regent, their entry mower, hanging around. He's got it stuck back in the storage area with all the other new crated mowers he has. 20hp B&S "Professional Series" single cylinder motor, 42" deck, hydro trans, electric PTO for the blade.

Offered it to me for $1k, with full warranty. (Brand new model sells for #2100.) Looked all over it....it's never cut a blade of grass, everything looks just like a 2014 model on the showroom floor. But the length of time it's been sitting kinda bothers me. Leaving power equip. unused for extended lengths of time can lead to problems.

Would you take the "chance" on it? It's about equivalent to the John Deere D125.

Well, bought it. Remarkably, it runs darned smooth for a single cylinder 4 stroke B&S. Got it quite a bit dirty, tho, as it was raining off and on and mud everywhere. Now not only have to wash the mower but the floor of my trailer.

Did you get a place at the lake?

Yeah, we bought a small place up in Hartwell. 3br, 1.5 ba, ~1200 sq. ft. Small brick house. 1/2 ac lot. Prev. owner was 3 years behind on taxes, so was a rather "motivated" seller.

I'll say one thing. Gas prices are a little higher in GA, but the roads show it. 😉

B&S are pretty good engines, no?

Funny how that works. Taxes are outrageous in NJ, but the roads are in really good shape. Not enough to justify the taxes, but I'm sure the construction companies are enjoying life.

You need a riding mower to cut just 1/2 acre?

A 2nd home should be more for recreation/relaxation instead of work?

After my grandpa retired, for the 1st time, he was with my grandma as she opened their summer cottage for the year. At lunch time he left, went to the store, and came home with a "For Sale" sign.
