Left and it started to sprinkle (on a scooter) so I hurried back, when I got home I checked the forcast on my phone to see how long the rain is supposed to last. It's showing 0% chance of rain today. I've been home 30 minutes and it's still steadily coming down. I'm no meteorologist, but I do understand basic math and 0%'s 0%.

The little trackpad nub fell off my laptop. Not sure how that happened. I have never used it before. 0/10 HP quality.
they are replaceable. That is why it came off xd

Mum has an operation planned. Got the phone call Friday to come in Monday (13th April, today) so I phone work and tell them I can't come in for two weeks because she's going to need someone to look after her post surgery. Work give me a weeks carers leave and a weeks holiday. Drive 300 miles to get here to look after her.

Turns out mum misunderstood the phone call and it was just for an MRI to plan the surgery.

Now I have 2 weeks with nothing to do at my mums house!

Step 1, leave Mum's house in a couple of days and go vacation. Or go back to work, and have that time for when she actually has surgery.

I'm just assuming that a couple of hours after I leave she'll get a phone call calling her into surgery. In which case I'll have to turn around and drive straight back down!

I'll probably have to burn some holiday time next time she's called in.

Ha. Man either way, an annoying situation. As long as she is ok, that's all that matters. But it's good to not mix that up

Yeah, that's why I'm putting it as a "first world problem". She's going to get the surgery, she's not going to have to pay anything, she's had MRIs and CTs and I'm just whining that I had to drive 7 hours and burned some holiday!

I thought I was off today but I work. I was lying in bed yesterday having a hard time falling asleep and happened to check my schedule and sure enough I start today, good thing I checked! I thought I started tomorrow. At least it's night shift.

On the plus side they still have not fixed the network port issue at the office so I'm allowed to work from home. Would love if we could always work nights from home. I've been lucky that I've worked a lot of them but it's typically not something that's allowed. Boss knows I have a solid network and solid power so he's less concerned.

You should offer to host their network in your basement. You could work from home and make bank on the service.

Make a cardboard sign that reads "My network is down. send help." And raise it up to the security camera every time you lose connection. You are actively trying to resolve the issue while doing fuck all.

At this point my basement setup is way more stable than the office, maybe I should lol. Pretty bad when we're a communication company and can't keep our own internal network working properly.

Apparently they fixed the network issue. They've been deploying this new security software on all computers and for some reason it was doing a network autodiscovery. From each PC. So it caused packet storms. It's weird how it was so intermittent though.

Not sure what the fix was, I presume they disabled autodiscovery. Will find out tonight... I'm in the office now.

Why the hell do they need auto discovery from every edge node?

My coffee today is Starbucks French roast. I bought a huge bag a long time ago, and I don't like it. It's over roasted. I bet the beans Starbucks uses come off the tree tasting burnt. I'm not gonna waste the coffee, so I have to make it gone. Decided this would be one of the days. Only good thing I can say about it is it's better than no coffee.

Mr. 6,666X thanks you.

I don't think he's thanking me too much. It came from groceryoutlet, so it was distressed merchandise and marked off the books.

It's an interesting moral question. Buying distressed merchandise it sort of an intermediate step between whitelist, and blacklist. If you're boycotting a company, it's not giving money directly to them, but it makes their products more desirable, so the second tier seller is more likely to pick them up again.

The purest form of voting with your wallet would be rejecting products under any circumstances. Going through a second tier seller? Maybe... You're splitting the difference. They had pretzel chips that looked kind of interesting. I looked at the package, noted they were made in Israel, and put them back. I don't want to give any support to Israel in any fashion. It's bad enough my taxes are funding them for some reason.

Some random company being a dick? I'm more inclined to get a product then. All companies are dicks, and the only reason I don't already have a boycott in place is because I'm unaware of what they've done.

The snow has melted enough that I can see parts of the bare concrete of my driveway now, and noticed that it actually sank quite a lot over the winter. There's like a 2 inch difference between one of the slab sections and the other and it's at an angle. Ground is still frozen so will wait to see what happens by like July/August and see if it settles back. If not I might have to lift up the slab and inject concrete under there. What's concerning though is where is the soil eroding to... hopefully not the weeping tiles.

I got TPS covered real good this morning. Corporate asked for project documents for a specific project a few weeks ago, which I provided the same day. This morning I find frantic emails from three levels of management telling me that I need to respond to corporate’s request immediately! Corporate claims I wasn’t responsive to their request for documents concerning a completely different project, documents they never asked for. So I sent corporate the documents they were now demanding, explaining that I had just been made aware of this new request, and included the original email chain wherein corporate acknowledged that they had received everything that they had originally requested.

Piss me off!

Did I mention that I am pissed and totally okay with telling them that I’m pissed.

Go ahead and tell them I’m pissed.

I got some LaChoy canned miso soup from groceryoutlet for $1/can. I wasn't expecting much, but damn is it bland, and they somehow made it not salty enough. How do you not get enough salt in your canned soup? That's the default state :^D

I actually might buy more. It's worth $1 I guess, but I like the instant miso kits from Japan better.
